The shadeless stop
A bus and dolmus stop that is just a pole, with no shade and no seat, made humane with a small shelter, a lean-rail and a roof.
The most ordinary failure in the city is a stop where people wait in full sun with nowhere to sit. A compact shelter, a simple roof and a lean-rail turn the daily wait into something the body can bear.
The problem
A single pole marks the stop. In summer there is no shade and nowhere to rest, so older people and parents with children stand in the heat or give up and walk.
The intervention
A light steel roof on two posts, a lean-rail at hip height for short waits, a narrow bench for longer ones, and a clear panel with the route and times.
Who it serves
Everyone who uses public transport, and most of all older residents, pregnant women, and anyone carrying shopping or children.
Social impact
A small fix with wide reach. Shade and a seat make transit usable for people the heat would otherwise exclude, and a marked stop makes the network feel legible.
How we would measure it
Count how many people sit or shelter across a hot afternoon, before and after, and note how long they stay.
What it costs
